We provide high-quality diagnostic ultrasound imaging using modern equipment and experienced sonographers.

Renal Ultrasound

Queensland Radiology Specialists provides high-resolution renal ultrasound to assess the kidneys, bladder, and surrounding urinary structures. Using advanced ultrasound technology, our experienced sonographers produce detailed images that help doctors diagnose kidney conditions, investigate urinary symptoms, and monitor ongoing kidney health.

Availability: Renal ultrasound services are available at all of our clinic locations.

What Is a Renal Ultrasound?

A renal ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to create real-time images of the kidneys and urinary system. It is a safe, non-invasive imaging test commonly used to evaluate kidney function and investigate urinary symptoms.

Renal ultrasound is commonly used to assess:

  • Kidneys – including kidney stones, cysts, masses, or structural abnormalities

  • Kidney size and shape – which may indicate chronic kidney conditions

  • Urinary obstruction – such as blockage or swelling of the kidneys (hydronephrosis)

  • Bladder – including bladder wall abnormalities or incomplete emptying

  • Urinary symptoms – such as blood in the urine, pain, or recurrent infections

  • Monitoring known kidney conditions or follow-up after treatment

Your doctor may request a renal ultrasound to help diagnose symptoms, evaluate abnormal blood or urine test results, or monitor existing kidney disease.
