Echocardiography

Safe, painless imaging to understand your heart

Echocardiography

Queensland Radiology Specialists provides echocardiography (echo), a specialised ultrasound of the heart used to assess cardiac structure and function. Performed by experienced sonographers and reviewed by cardiology-trained radiologists, echocardiography is a non-invasive, safe, and highly informative test for evaluating heart health.

Availability: Echocardiography is available at all of our clinic locations.

What Is an Echocardiogram?

An echocardiogram uses high-frequency sound waves to create real-time images of the heart.

Echocardiography can be used to:

  • Assess heart chambers, valves, and wall motion

  • Measure heart function and ejection fraction

  • Detect heart valve disease, congenital abnormalities, or cardiomyopathy

  • Evaluate pericardial effusion, clots, or masses

  • Guide management of heart failure or other cardiac conditions

Echocardiography is often recommended when patients experience symptoms such as shortness of breath, chest pain, palpitations, or abnormal heart sounds.
