What to Expect During Your Echocardiography
Before Your Scan
- No special preparation is usually required
- Bring your referral and any previous cardiac imaging or reports
- Wear comfortable clothing that allows access to your chest
During the Scan
- You will lie on your side or back on the scanning table
- Electrodes may be attached to monitor your heart during the scan
- A transducer (handheld probe) is moved across your chest to capture images of the heart
- The procedure is painless and non-invasive
- Most scans take 20–40 minutes, depending on the complexity
After the Scan
- You can return to normal activities immediately
- A radiologist will review the images and send a detailed report to your referring doctor
