What to Expect During Holter Monitoring
Before You Start
- Your referring doctor will provide a prescription for Holter monitoring
- Wear loose-fitting clothing to accommodate the device
- Avoid lotions or creams on your chest
During Monitoring
- Electrodes are attached to your chest and connected to the portable Holter device
- You will wear the device continuously for 24–48 hours, depending on your doctor’s instructions
- You can go about most normal daily activities but should avoid bathing, swimming, or heavy exercise
- Keep a diary of symptoms, activities, and times of palpitations or dizziness for reference
After Monitoring
- Return to the clinic to have the Holter monitor removed
- The recorded data is analysed by a specialist
- A detailed report is sent to your referring doctor, who will discuss any findings and next steps
