Holter Monitor

Continuous heart rhythm monitoring for accurate diagnosis

Holter Monitor

Queensland Radiology Specialists provides Holter monitoring, a non-invasive test used to continuously record your heart’s electrical activity over 24–48 hours. This test helps your doctor assess irregular heart rhythms, palpitations, or unexplained fainting.

Availability: Holter monitor testing is available at all of our clinic locations.

What Is a Holter Monitor?

A Holter monitor is a small, portable device worn on your body that continuously records your heart’s electrical activity.

Holter monitoring is commonly used to:

  • Detect arrhythmias or irregular heartbeats

  • Evaluate symptoms such as palpitations, dizziness, or fainting

  • Assess the effectiveness of heart medications

  • Monitor heart rhythm after cardiac procedures or interventions

Unlike a standard ECG, which records a few seconds of heart activity, a Holter monitor provides a 24–48 hour continuous recording for a more detailed assessment.

Why Choose Queensland Radiology Specialists for Holter Monitoring?

  • Experienced cardiac technicians and support staff

  • Accurate, high-quality heart rhythm recordings

  • Safe, non-invasive, and radiation-free procedure

  • Rapid report turnaround for your referring doctor

  • Supportive and patient-focused environment

We prioritise accurate diagnosis, patient safety, and comfort during every Holter monitoring assessment.

What to Expect During Holter Monitoring

Before You Start

  • Your referring doctor will provide a prescription for Holter monitoring

  • Wear loose-fitting clothing to accommodate the device

  • Avoid lotions or creams on your chest

During Monitoring

  • Electrodes are attached to your chest and connected to the portable Holter device

  • You will wear the device continuously for 24–48 hours, depending on your doctor’s instructions

  • You can go about most normal daily activities but should avoid bathing, swimming, or heavy exercise

  • Keep a diary of symptoms, activities, and times of palpitations or dizziness for reference

After Monitoring

  • Return to the clinic to have the Holter monitor removed

  • The recorded data is analysed by a specialist

  • A detailed report is sent to your referring doctor, who will discuss any findings and next steps

Is Holter Monitoring Safe?

Yes. Holter monitoring is completely safe, non-invasive, and uses no radiation. The electrodes simply record electrical signals from your heart.
