Barium Swallow

Fluoroscopy for Swallowing Assessment

Our Chermside clinic provides specialised fluoroscopy imaging to assess swallowing, esophageal function, and gastrointestinal movement.

A Barium Swallow is a real-time X-ray study that helps doctors diagnose:

  • Swallowing difficulties (dysphagia)
  • Reflux and regurgitation
  • Hiatal hernia
  • Structural abnormalities of the esophagus
  • Motility disorders

Availability: This service is only available at our Chermside clinic. Our team will confirm appointment details when you book.

What Is a Barium Swallow?

A Barium Swallow uses fluoroscopy (real-time X-ray imaging) with a barium contrast drink. The barium coats the esophagus and stomach lining, allowing doctors to see:

  • How well you swallow
  • Movement of food and liquid through the esophagus
  • Structural abnormalities that may cause pain or reflux

The procedure is quick, safe, and minimally invasive.
